Thom wins
inaugural Schools'
Young Thinker title

The finalists: Alistair Cook, Aksana Baikova, Thom Sherrington,
Emma-Jane Welsh, Peter Liddle, Stuart Boyle and Lorna Howie
Thom Sherrington, a history teacher at Aboyne Academy in Aberdeenshire, was named the inaugural Scottish Schools' Young Thinker of the Year at Dundee in June for a paper on the new Curriculum for Excellence. Stuart Boyle of Bannerman High School in Glasgow was runner-up for a paper on the link between poverty and ill health.
The other finalists in this new ICS event were:
Aksana Baikova, Camphill School, Aberdeen
Alistair Cook, Inverness High School
Lorna Howie, Dalkeith High School
Peter Liddle, St Columba's High School, Dunfermline
Emma-Jane Welsh, Liberton High School, Edinburgh
Each of the finalists delivered a 900-word Argument paper on a subject of their own choice 'of current interest or controversy'.
This new competition was made possible by a generous anonymous donation from an ICS member.
